Part Number: TPS25200 I have used TPS25200 for the purpose of the current limitation in my circuit. I have used 60.4Kohm for Rlim, and using equation 1 of the datasheet, Ios nominal will be approximately 1.5A. For testing, I used the potentiometer to reduce the load and thus increasing the current. But after testing the circuit I found out that for the value of 60.4k, TPS25200 limited the current in the range of 500mA. Then I tried to reduce the resistance of Rlim and found that for the value of Rlim in between 15k to 20k, threshold current changes drastically from 500mA to 5A. And the above tested has been done on different TPS25200 IC. Also as per the datasheet Rlim value should be between 33kohm and 1100kohm with the maximum current threshold of 3.1A. Concluding, TPS25200 is limiting the current but not with the desired value calculated through the equation from the datasheet. What should I do to get the desirable threshold current?

Part Number: TPS54202 Hi team, In datasheet, the non switching quiescent current is 45uA. But in actual application, customers care more about switching quiescent current. I have two questions as below: 1. How to test the non switching quiescent current? In other words, what's the test condition of 45uA? 2. I think 45uA makes no sense. Why don't we test switching quiescent current and write the result on datasheet? Best regards, Nison

Kevin, TI battery chargers like BQ24725A or BQ24780S have the charging current and battery voltage registers as the standard address of 0x14H and 0x15H defined by Smart Battery Charger Specification. The SMBus chargers can receive the smart battery’s broadcast of Vbat and Ichg, but the chargers are not compliant to the full requirements of level 2 slave chargers.

Hello Yangbo. My message is not the answer to your question, but it will probably be interesting to you. I recently did an experiment to replace the version of the FW in the bq34z100 chip. So, the initial state is the chip bq34z100 FW=0016. I wrote the SENC file with version 0006 to the chip. After exiting the programming mode (Boot mode), to my surprise, I saw a cyclic reset chip. The chip is not working properly. When I try to read any data, I see garbage. Switching the chip into programming mode is not possible. Output: Probably the version of chip FW=0016 is not compatible with version FW=0006. It is very interesting to hear the comment of TI specialists. P.S. The procedure for reading and writing new data (SENC) is correct, without errors and stops. It is checked several times on different chips.

Nison, I do not directly support TPS54202, but I can answer your questions: 1. The quiescent current is measured using the ATE in an open loop configuration. EN is high to 5 V and the FB pin is forced to 1 V, which is above the 0.596 V reference. Forcing VFB high causes the device not to switch and the current is measured. 2. The measurement you are interested in would require a closed loop test. The switching no load current is the non switching quiescent current plus the switching current. The switching current is application dependent. It will vary with Vin, Vout and the output inductor value. It is not practical to test that in ATE.

Hello Caner, Thanks for clarifying. Unfortunately, it is not possible for selective protection. For example, if you disable the FETs for CUV, you end up disabling it for COV, and every other individual protection. I will notify our systems team for the next catalog release to consider this feature. Sorry about that.

Hello Caner, I see! In other words, you want to send commands to manually control the balance FETs for VC7 through VC1 right? I don't think the bq40z80 can achieve this, again I will notify the systems team. Why are you using the bq40z80 as an equivalent monitor if I may ask? Is it because you also need the gauging feature in a one chip solution?

Hello Caner, I see... For some reason the golden image plug-in does not show up for me either. Let me check. In the mean time, you can only read out an srec file. That is under the "firmware tab". Let me check with the tools team on enabling this functionality. Are you able to program srec files in your system? Normally, the bq40z80 is a pack side gauge, so this is done by pack makers. I checked and the bq40z50 also does not have this functionality.

Hello Sepeedah, Nope, it uses an older platform that can only support low side. The high side sense resistor option is useful for customers that want a uniform ground. For example, if you have 5 amps flowing through 10 mOhm sense, that's a 50 mV delta between the cell ground and your system ground.

Hello Andrew, The bq275xx series such as the bq27542 or bq27546. The bq27520-G4, bq27z561 are all good options.

Part Number: BQ40Z50-R3-DEVICE-FW I have Down loaded the new and the latest test files for BQstudio. It appears that maybe the nw file SLUC525V which gets downloaded is not really the latest (V 1.3.96) . Version R3 does not show up in the program or in the CONFIG directory.

Hello Mike, We started releasing bqzs as part of the FW release on the products page. Go to the bq40z50-R3 products page and download the FW package. You will find the bqz file there. Place it in the config folder in the bqStudio directory.

Part Number: CSD13385F5 Hi, I am rather used to seeing bi-directional diodes (like two Zeners facing each other) between gate and source in MOSFETs. However, this part has a uni-directional diode. 1) How come? 2) In what way would you say I should take this into consideration when selecting whether to use this part? In this case I am planning to use this nFET to switch on/off a high-side pFET (grounding/not grounding its gate) acting as a load switch. Thanks!
