Alright, this is all good information. Thank you all so far!

 

My next problem seems to be output current. If I'm still allowed to post.....

I know the max voltage I want (9), and a set resistance on load (1.1). so according to Ohms law, my load current would be around just over 8 amps. (Correct?) It was suggested that I use a simple regulator such as the lm317, but looking at it's datasheet, it dosent support my required amperage. I have been looking all over the T.I. website, at all sorts of boost regulators, but to no avail. It looks like my next best option is to use a higher input current, and use a step down regulator to control voltage. Any suggestions for a simple, few external parts buck regulator?
