Forum Post: RE: Controller Selection

Hi Anthony,

Well we are thinking of using the LMR64010 instead of the LMR62421 because the SW node can go up to 40V in the LM64010. We are also thinking of buffering and amplifying our input voltage to reduce the total required Vout/Vin gain. This will reduce the required duty cycle and the magnitude of the inductor (switch) current.

I think this is a good choice for us, unless you have any concerns with that selection, or other questions for us to consider.

The next thing we need is the ability to simulate our flyback circuit. It appears to me that the LMR62421 has a pspice model, but the LMR64010, does not. That is ok, we can simulate with the LMR62421, and build our prototype with the LMR64010.

Where I need some support from you is in getting my simulation started.

When I am not using Cadence for IC design, I use LTSpice for discrete design. Usually I can download or find component models and access them simply with a single .LIB statement.

I am not sure how to proceed with the  LMR62421 model. I down loaded the model and I got several folders and files.  In one folder I see a file called LMR62421X_trans.LIB

there is one line I can read

SUBCKT LMR62421X_TRANS VIN EN SW FB GND PARAMS: SS=0

Presumably I can create a symbol with these pin names and pin order, and use an .INCLUDE statement to refer to this file.

What is going on with the rest of the model? Is this encoded? Will LTSpice be able to read it? What are all the other folders and files for?

LTSpice has a library with hundreds of their parts. I can run simulations with any of these parts without even needing an INCLUDE statement.

I guess you have something similar with Tina Spice?

I have been using LTSpice for years and don't really have the time to learn Tina Spice. Is Tina Spice free (like LTSpice)?

Can you help me get set-up so I can run simulations with the LMR62421 in the LTSpice environment?

We hope to hear back from you again :-)

Thanks,

David
